Talmud Torah is the name of the after-school and Sunday-school Jewish education programming for schoolchildren offered through Beth Jacob. Talmud Torah is a conerstone of the Beth Jacob community, ensuring that our children receive a real-world Jewish education.

The educational curriculum offered by Beth Jacob's Talmud Torah places a strong focus on the Jewish holidays, Hebrew language, Jewish history (including the modern state of Israel), and the weekly Torah portion. We believe that every child should know their cultural heritage, understand their role as a member of the Jewish people, and appreciate their ancestral traditions.

The instruction format and physical environment of the Beth Jacob Talmud Torah program have been intentionally designed to ensure the comfort of students from all denominations and all forms of personal practice. All instruction is halachically authentic, and the children are provided opportunities to engage in leadership and volunteering in both synagogue services and community social-action programs.

Every class is led by a qualified educator, generally assisted by 2-3 university student volunteers. The small teacher-to-student ratio is a special benefit to living in Kitchener-Waterloo. Our Talmud Torah program is flexible in adapting the needs of individual students, including students with special needs.

We are proud that a significant number of Israelis choose to make Kitchener-Waterloo their home, and who also select Beth Jacob's Talmud Torah program to provide continuity with Israel here in the diaspora.

Talmud Torah classes are typically offered as follows:

All students (grades 1 to 6):
Sundays mornings 9:00am-12:00pm
(crafts, songs, workbooks, interactive narratives, partially immersive Hebrew)

Older students supplementary instruction (grades 4 to 6):
Thursdays evenings 4:30pm-6:00pm
(relaxed atmosphere includes snacks, music, jokes, etc.)

Registration for the 2018-2019 will be coming soon!
